Initial Post Instructions
For the initial post, respond to one of the following options:

  1. Define the Confucian terms: ren, yi, li, zhi, and xin. Choose one of these principles and examine how it contributes to social harmony.
  2. What is wuwei? How does this ideal contribute to harmony with heaven? How does the Daoist idea of wuwei compare to Confucian notions of how one should live in the world?

Solution:

Wuwei is translated to mean the absence of doing or the absence of action (Molloy, 2013). “Wuwei must depend on nothing, and this means it cannot depend on the motivation to do nondoing.” (Knightly, 2013). It is typically understood as a Daoist term or ideal, yet it is seen in other ancient Chinese schools of thought as well. For example, Confucius’s spiritual autobiography in the Analects 2.4. We can translate it as “effortless actions” because it refers not to what is or is not being done, but to the manner in which something is done…..Please click the icon below to purchase full solution at $5
