Reflection

Nursing education has continued to recognize and embrace the concept of reflection as an indispensable tool for facilitating nursing students to learn from practice. The practice experience for nursing students is widely acknowledged as one of the most vital aspects of their practice-oriented learning as well as their professional preparation. According to Redmond (2017), students perceive practice as the key area in which they can learn real nursing. As such, it is highly essential for students to reflect on their capability to integrate theoretical knowledge to practice in order to emerge as competent nursing practitioners. This paper is a reflection of the achievements attained in this course in regards to meeting the MSN program outcome #4, the MSN Essential IV, and the Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies # 7.

The MSN Program Outcome #4

This course has considerably facilitated in meeting MSN program outcome#4 and most particularly in professional identity. The course has not only assisted me in translating my contemporary knowledge into practice but has also helped in building my confidence in caring for all patients at all nursing levels within the health care delivery system. According to Ku, Liu, Chang, Cheng, and Yang (2016), professional identity development commences with one perception of their roles and how well they manage their work roles as well as related practices. This course enabled me to develop and enhance my professional identity by developing self-awareness, self-concept, and respect as well as acknowledging and accepting my roles and responsibilities as a nursing practitioner. For example, at my place of work, I have been able to improve my interactions with patients by establishing mutual trust and respect through the facilitation of an open and honest communication.

Another example is that the course has given me a golden opportunity to enhance and continue building my knowledge and skills whilst building my understanding of how indispensable it is for nurses to create patients’ treatment plan on the basis of evidence-based guidelines for measurement of both current and future patients. This gained knowledge and expertise is not only useful in addressing patient needs but also in protecting and promoting the nurses’ role as professions. Ku et al. (2016) argue that the health care sector is ever-advancing and it is highly fundamental for nursing practitioners to practice at the optimal level of patient care…..Please click the icon below to purchase full solution at $10
