  • Analyze the responsibility of the United States today to be the world’s “policeman.”
  • Assess if peace and stability in the Middle East are vital to U.S. economy and national security.
  • If the United States withdrew its troops from the Middle East tomorrow, would the terrorist threat end. Why or why not?

Solution:

I do not think that global terrorism can be stopped. History has taught us that the fall of terror groups and their leaders creates a power vacuum that is soon filled with another group or leader. The root cause of these groups and their continued existence, such as religious extremism and opposition to U.S influence in their countries, are also unlikely to stop any time soon.

Peace and stability in the Middle East are essential to the United States’ national security and economy. Incidents such as the 9/11 bombing of the World Trade Centre, 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings, and the United States Embassy bombings in Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam in 1998 have proven how instability in the Middle East impacts on the nation’s security and economy.
