During the 1930s, much of the world seemed to give up on their hope for a democratic solution to their problems and instead turned to totalitarianism, both in Europe and in Asia.

During the 1930s Democratic governments across the globe appeared to be on the verge of collapse. This trend was particularly conspicuous in Europe and Asia. Germany serves as an ideal example of the areas where democracy was overtaken by extremist ideologies during the 1930s (Duiker, 2015). Here, Adolf Hitler constantly preached extremist ideologies to the Germans. It was just a matter of time before his radical approach propelled him into power.
