Consider what was happening in nursing in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s with the change from diploma programs to an associate degree program. Martha Rogers believed that nursing is a separate and essential discipline and a unique field of study. She worked hard to establish nursing in higher education. Explain the importance of this shift and how it impacted nursing as a profession.

Martha Rogers focused on working for the establishment of nursing in higher education. She called for a liberal a broad liberal university education for nurses. She formulated the theory of Science of Unitary Human Beings (SUHB). Based on this theory, nursing is both a science and an art that provides a way to view unitary human beings (Gunther, 2021). This model identifies the environment as a critical aspect of patients and nurses ought to consider this in providing patient care to facilitate healing in patients.  Patients are considered unitary human beings who are whole.
