Resolution of Problem/Concern

Leadership and Management skills in nursing practice play are a vital role in ensuring the provision of quality healthcare services. It is important for nursing managers to be good leaders as well. Managerial skills facilitate organization and application of resources for the production of optimal results. Leadership skills, on the other hand, are essential in drawing a vision of the achievable outcomes and communicating with others as well as outlining key strategies for the vision realization. While leadership is focused on inspiring, engaging with and building a team’s confidence, management skills contribute to the success of leadership (Roche, Duffield, Dimitrelis, & Frew, 2015). However, nursing practice is continuously faced with challenges related to leadership and management following lack of the essential skills to address the changing demands and increasing complexities within a healthcare setting. Without proper leadership and managerial skills, nurses cannot productively work as a team or achieve proper organizations. As such, this paper seeks to outline the identified evidence-based solution to enhancing leadership and management skills in nurses and anticipated/ actual project implementation outcomes. It includes change theory identification and inclusion, comprehensive and measurable plan, utilization of new modalities of scholarship, integration of knowledge from core and track program courses and a conclusion.

Evidence-Based Solution

The evidence-based solution for addressing the lack and inadequacy of leadership and management skills in nursing is an alignment of nurses’ activities with their career goals, and demonstration of the capacity of applying healthcare concepts in a healthcare setting for improvement of their leadership and managerial skills. The change stakeholders will include the nurses, patients, and healthcare leaders and managers and it will involve various activities such as exploration of the fundamental leadership and management principles through teamwork and group dynamics.

According to Lin, MacLennan, Hunt, and Cox (2015), matching the nurses’ activities with their career goals empowers and motivates the nurses to improve and develop leadership and management skills. More so, Bailey, Belfield, Jenkins, and Kopko (2016) indicate that matching nurses’ activities and career goals enhance close nursing staff and nurse management cooperation which subsequently leads to enhancement of nursing outcomes. Regarding demonstration of capacity for applying healthcare concepts within healthcare setting, it is important for nurses to understand and apply the underlying leadership and management concepts. As such, demonstrating capacity for concept application will mentor, motivate, and empower nurses to fully exploit their own capacity for concept application whilst learning on essential models of leadership and management for facilitation of nurse competence development and improvement of team collaboration and relationships between nursing staff and nursing leaders/ managers. The implementation time is unspecified so as to allow for continuous and infinite growth and development of nursing leadership and management skills.

The anticipated project implementation outcomes include the development of nursing leadership and management skills. The leadership and management skills include clinical expertise, communication skills, flexibility, staff management, resource management skills, and teamwork collaboration skills. An additional anticipated outcome is enhancement nurses capacity to integrate leadership and management concepts within the healthcare setting for the advancement of total health outcomes and health promotion within families and communities.

Change Theory Identification and Inclusion

Ensuring maximum adoption of the evidence-based solution will be a critical aspect in determining the total healthcare outcomes. However, this is faced by the challenge of building a bridge between the identified solution and the contemporary practice which cannot be built by simply informing the healthcare workforce about the solution (Pashaeypoor, Ashktorab, Rassouli, & Alavi-Majd, 2016)….Please click the icon below to purchase full solution at $10
