As defined by Gadde and Ortega (2015), sampling theory is the study of relationships between populations and samples collected from the population. Sampling theory can only be applied in random samples. Population/ universe is the aggregate of items/people with a common trait(s). It is the complete collection of items in which research seeks knowledge. The population may be finite or infinite.
