Then, in your Practicum Journal, address the following:
Using the Group Therapy Progress Note in this week’s Learning Resources, document
the group session.
Describe each client (without violating HIPAA regulations), and identify any pertinent
history or medical information, including prescribed medications.
Using the DSM-5, explain and justify your diagnosis for each client.
Explain whether cognitive behavioral therapy would be effective with this group. Include
expected outcomes based on this therapeutic approach.
Explain any legal and/or ethical implications related to counseling each client.
Support your approach with evidence-based literature.
Journal Entry: Group Therapy
Group therapy is a kind of therapy that focuses on treatment of two or more members with similar or closely linked problems. It emphasizes on the dynamic interaction of the group members as guided by the therapeutic principles of universality, altruism, hope instillation, imparting information, interpersonal learning, corrective recapitulation, and development of sociable behaviors (Dobson & Dobson, 2018). The focus of this journal entry is to documenting a group therapy session using two clients who attended the same group therapy. It provides a description of each client including pertinent history, explanation and justification of their diagnosis with reference to the DSM-5, explanation of effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with the group, and the legal-ethical implications.
