Mental health issues require thorough assessment for the development of best treatment decisions. The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate a selected client case#2, Stefanie is a 32-year-old female from Puerto Rico who presents with complains of difficulty sleeping, and analyze pharmacologic and psychotherapy treatments decisions made while taking into account the ethical implications involved in treating the client.

Decision One: Differential Diagnosis: Cyclothymic disorder

Rationale

As described by Van Meter et al. (2018), Cyclothymic disorder is a mild type of bipolar disorder in which the client’s experiences mood swings for 2 years. The patient does not meet the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for depression and neither does she fit for hypomania. She presents symptoms of both depression and hypomania characterized by irritability and a short span of regular activity. Considering the fact that these behaviors are not as a consequence of substance/ drug use or any medical condition, the client meets the diagnostic criteria for cyclothymic disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
