According to Ting‐Toomey (2017), the identity of an individual may include a wide range of multiple intersecting factors such as ethnicity, race, gender, religion, class, heritage, national origin, sexual orientation among others. The cumulative privileges and/or oppression of experienced by an individual are to a huge extent influenced by the existing systemic biases and prejudices associated with the multiple identities. This paper provides a description of the intersection between religious and other identity aspects, the roles of religion in the reinforcement of classism, sexism, and racism, and the micro- and macro-level strategies that social workers may use to address religion-related identity issues.
