The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) is distinctly committed to developing and spreading the core competencies for nurse executives in different levels of responsibilities and care setups. As Stephenson (2017) asserts, the nurse leader competencies can be an effective self-assessment tool that can be applied to identify possible areas that inspire growth. Similarly, the approach can be instrumental in planning individual career preparation, evaluation of nurse executives, and as an educational guideline to nurses seeking knowledge, understanding, and expertise in their executive practice.

In my practicum setting, I demonstrated two critical competencies that critically shaped my practicum experience. One of the core competencies was communication and relationship building.
